Quite a number of the administrative workers called in as sick and this affected the operations of the corporation. We are in the position of trying to grapple with things to ensure that the finances comes in and yet the workers are not there to assist in getting information required and that is affecting us. He said between 80 to 90 percent of the workers called in sick.“Any sick out will affect an organization. We have ongoing work that we have to complete to generate the income required so that payment can be made. When those things happen, it delays the program in getting the cash that is so badly needed,” he said.Meantime the Public Workers Corporation issued a press release on Thursday, claiming that it has been experiencing major financial constraints over the past two to three years.“In April of 2011, Management decided to analyze the various revenue functions within the Corporation with a view to finding out whether these entities were operating profitably. The survey which formed part of the undertaking toward a Business Plan; included the Precast Concrete Plant Road Maintenance Section, the Pond Case Quarry, the Asphalt Plant and the Machine Shop. The Business Plan revealed that those entities were in fact being operated at a loss,” the release said.It says the business plan seeks to relieve and revitalize the PWC by providing an avenue to pursue viable business ventures, new revenue streams and better support services while curbing unwarranted expenditures, being self sufficient, more reliable and providing a better and cheaper service.“We realize that our financial constraints were reflected in our inability to make timely payments of wages and salaries and this we regret, therefore we solicit further tolerance from the staff in these challenges times,” the release states. The Ministry of Public Works is said to be collaborating with the Corporation in ensuring that outstanding payments are made within the quickest possible time.Dominica Vibes News Share 10 Views   no discussionscenter_img Tweet Share LocalNews PWC sick out affects operations there by: – November 24, 2011last_img read more
