first_imgTottenham have announced that Peter Baker, a member of the 1961 double-winning side, has died at the age of 84 following illness.Baker was born in Hampstead, north London and joined Spurs in June 1949, playing 342 times for the club after making his debut in a team containing Bill Nicholson in 1953.When Nicholson later managed the club, the right-back became an integral part of his 1961 squad and formed one half of a formidable full-back pairing with Ron Henry, as Spurs won both the league and FA Cup in the same season.After helping Spurs retain the FA Cup in 1962, Baker was part of the side that became the first British club to win a European trophy when they beat Atletico Madrid to lift the 1963 Cup Winners’ Cup.He left White Hart Lane in 1965 when he emigrated to South Africa to play for and later manage Durban United.Baker was inducted into the Tottenham Hall of Fame in 2004. 2 Peter Baker has died aged 84 center_img 2last_img read more
