first_imgGurugram: Over 1.2 million voters from Gurugram will be eligible to vote on October 21 when Haryana will go to the polls. In a district where voting percent has traditionally been more than 60 percent, the challenge for the district administration is to increase the voting count for which the new experiment is being tried. For this assembly election, the practice of giving a token to voters at the booths where there are high voter turnouts will be tried. The practice has already been done before in Hamirpur area of Himachal Pradesh to tackle the booths that had a high voting percentage and where the voting can be done without hassles. They will be then asked to cast their votes when their time comes to vote. As of now, it has not been mentioned that in which booths this new process will be implemented. The following process being implemented is among various new experiments that have been tried by the district administration to improve, increase and harness the voting process in the city. In the Lok Sabha elections, various new schemes like a selfie with the inked wards, model wards, and pink booths were tried by the district administration. Moreover, the district administration also actively promoted one of its famous citizen Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli coming out and voting. “Gurugram district has always voted proactively. In the last General elections, the voting percentage was over 70. We would want this healthy trend to continue. We have provided facilities by enhancing the communication channels so that the eligible voters do not face any hassles,” said a senior public official. The impending elections will also lead in deployment of sizeable forces to ensure safety and security. “Around 9,000 to 10,000 employees and officers have been deployed on election duty to conduct elections peacefully. Of these, 5,000 security personnel will be deployed during the elections,” said Deputy Commissioner Amit Khatri.
