Herzberger was formally installed Saturday as the 14th president of Whittier College in a traditional ceremony in Harris Amphitheatre.“You may have heard the old joke about a college president being like a cemetery proprietor: You have a lot of people under you, but no one is listening,” she told nearly 400 people at the event. “Well, at Whittier, we – including this college president – take pride in learning to listen. … I am so proud to be part of Whittier College.”Herzberger was appointed Whittier College’s president in February and began her term on July 1. She is the second female to be named president of the nearly 1,500-student campus.The inauguration celebration started Tuesday and ends today with a festival and concert from 2 to 6 p.m. in the upper quad of Whittier College.Whittier College was founded in 1887 and was chartered by the state in 1901. The 74-acre campus provides 26 majors in 23 disciplines leading to a bachelor’s degree. The most popular majors are business, English and political science.last_img
