first_imgDonegal is getting behind the campaign to help little Senan Diamond. The Donegal relatives of young boy diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, have joined a major fund-raising campaign to get him treatment. In June little Senan Diamond, who is the 2-year-old son of Hugh and Sarah Diamond, was diagnosed with Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS), after a large tumour was discovered in his bladder.Sarah’s parents are both Donegal natives, her father Pat Black is from Croaghan, Ramelton and her mother Margaret Dunnion is a native of Ballybofey. Sarah has cousins scattered right around the county.Senan is currently enduring intensive chemotherapy in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin and while the tumour is responding well to treatment, chemotherapy on its own will not be enough to fight this cancer.“Senan’s team of Doctors in Crumlin have referred him to a specialist in France who offers surgery along with brachytherapy (a form of radiotherapy) to treat ERMS in bladder/ prostate regions. He will continue to receive chemotherapy in Crumlin before he travels to France to undergo the necessary treatment to give him the best chance of survival,” a family spokesperson said.

As a result, family and close friends have set up the Senan Diamond Benefit Fund, to help ease the financial strain and pressure of Senan’s treatment on the family. While most of the fund-raising has been centred in and around Senan’s home town of Ardee, there has also been a fantastic online fundraising drive including online auctions for items like a flag from the PGA Championship signed by Rory McIlroy. The first local event in Donegal will see a coffee morning take place in the home of Brigid and Maurice Dowds in Knock, Ballybofey from 10am until 8pm on Sunday 18th October. Brigid is the sister of Senan’s grandmother, Margaret. The following Saturday George Black, a brother of Senan’s grandfather Pat, will host a coffee afternoon and cupcake sale in his house at Croaghan, Ramelton from 12 noon until 4pm.“It is hoped that we will have a few other events in Donegal as well, but for now these two are definitely confirmed and it would be great to see them well supported,” a family spokesperson added. For more information and details of events to help Senan, like the Facebook page – GETS BEHIND CAMPAIGN TO HELP LITTLE SENAN, 2, BEAT CANCER was last modified: October 15th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:cancerdonegalSenan Diamondlast_img
