Doha Indias Avinash Sable qualified for the men

Posted in nhlnlkaw on October 18th, 2019

first_imgDoha: India’s Avinash Sable qualified for the men’s 3000m steeplechase finals under dramatic circumstances while Annu Rani failed to repeat her impressive qualifying round form to finish eighth in the women’s javelin throw in the World Athletics Championships here. The 25-year-old from Mandwa in Maharashtra thus became the first Indian man to reach the finals of a track event in the World Championships. Avinash initially failed to qualify for the finals despite bettering his own national record in an eventful first round heat but was later included among the men’s 3000m steeplechase finalists after the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) successfully protested that he was obstructed by other athletes during the race on Tuesday. Also Read – We will push hard for Kabaddi”s inclusion in 2024 Olympics: Rijiju He clocked 8 minute 25.23 seconds, bettering his earlier national record of 8:28.94, to finish seventh in heat number 3 and 20th overall out of 44 athletes who completed the race. He was involved in two incidents during the race that blocked his path and thereby slowing him down for no fault of his. The AFI later filed an appeal, claiming that Avinash was obstructed by other athletes during the race, with the request that he be advanced to the final round. Also Read – Djokovic to debut against Shapovalov at Shanghai Masters One hour later, the race referee, after examining video footages, agreed that Avinash was significantly obstructed on two occasions. India’s protest was accepted and under Rule 163.2 (Obstruction), Avinash was included for the final to be held on Friday. “We filed an appeal and we have got a favourable decision. So, Avinash will be in the final. He has been included among the finalists,” AFI Planning Commission Chairman Lalit Bhanot told PTI. There was no change in Avinash’s position but he has been added as the 16th competitor for the final race. The top three in each of the three heats and the next six fastest qualify for the final race. Both the incidents were triggered by reigning junior world champion Takele Nigate of Ethiopia. In the first, Avinash had to jump over another competitor as four-five athletes at the rear fell over each other. Midway during the race, Nigate bumped into an obstacle just in front of Sable. The Indian had to virtually climb up the obstacle as he was blocked by the Ethiopian, thereby losing crucial time. Despite slowing down due to the two incidents, Avinash ran more than three seconds better than his earlier national record of 8:28.94 which he had clocked in March this year during the Federation Cup. Annu, who on Monday smashed her own national record with a 62.43m throw, could only produce a best of 61.12m in the final round competition. Competing after Avinash, the 27-year-old Annu opened with a 59.25m before coming up with efforts of 61.12m and 60.20m, which put her among the top eight after three attempts and gave her three more throws. However, she could not improve upon her second round effort of 61.12m, coming up with 60.40m, 58.49m and 57.93m, to finish at eighth out of the 12 finalists. 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medallist Kelsey Lee Barber of Australia won the gold with a final round throw of 66.56m while the Chinese duo of Asian Games champion Liu Shiying and Asian champion Lyu Huihui took the silver and bronze with efforts of 65.88m and 65.49m respectively. Annu, who belongs to badal village from near Meerut will, however, held her head high as she had become the first Indian woman to reach the javelin throw final in the World Championships. “I have some technical faults and I will work on them and hopefully will do better. I am yet to qualify for the Olympic Games. I hope to make amends of my technical problems and qualify for the Olympics for which I have to throw 64m,” Annu said after her event. “The training in Europe helped me a lot, especially the stint in Czech Republic where I got a lot of chance to compete with top throwers and I got a lot of experience from there. Training under Uwe Hohn also helped in learning a lot,” she added. “I want to do well for the country and my ultimate dream is an Olympic medal.” Annu had failed to qualify for the finals in the last edition in 2017 in London where she had come up with a best throw of 59.93m to finish 20th overall in the qualification round.last_img read more

New Delhi Stateowned GAIL India Ltd and its affi

Posted in jklhvrtn on October 18th, 2019

first_imgNew Delhi: State-owned GAIL India Ltd and its affiliates have set a target to provide 11.44 lakh piped cooking gas connections in the current fiscal as they chase what now looks like a highly improbable target of connecting one crore households with environment-friendly fuel by next year. GAIL and its joint ventures such as the ones that retail CNG and piped cooking gas in Delhi and Mumbai had achieved just 60 per cent of the target to give 11.25 lakh connections in the 2018-19 fiscal year, according to company’s target document reviewed by PTI. Also Read – Commercial vehicle sales to remain subdued in current fiscal: IcraIn March 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had pledged to provide piped natural gas connections to one crore households “in the next four years”. India had about 26 lakh households using gas received from a pipeline in the kitchen in 2015 and the government was keen for a massive expansion of piped cooking gas to help cut down the usage of subsidised LPG. LPG thus freed can be used to replace kerosene and forest wood for cooking in rural and remote areas. Also Read – Ashok Leyland stock tanks over 5 pc as co plans to suspend production for up to 15 daysLater, the one crore deadline was pushed back by a year to 2020. But even this delayed deadline now looks improbable to achieve. Together with other private city gas distribution firms, piped cooking gas users in India rose from 42.65 lakh in March 2018 to over 52 lakh a year later. This has risen to 54.17 lakh as on September 1, according to the oil ministry’s Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC). Industry officials said the biggest push for piped cooking gas use would come when entities that have been authorised by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) in two bid rounds in the last one-year start work. When they come on stream, such users will jump many fold, they said. With a licence to retail CNG and piped gas to household kitchens given out for 136 geographical areas or GAs in last one year, the coverage of city gas network would be 70 per cent of country’s population, they said, adding household kitchens getting piped cooking gas would reach 5 crore by 2030 once full rollout is achieved in all the cities licensed. To achieve Prime Minister’s target of 1 crore piped natural gas users by 2020, a massive 45 lakh connections will have to be given in one year. But the biggest city gas distribution group GAIL is only targeting 11.44 lakh in year to March 31, 2020, according to the company document. This target comprises 3.4 lakh new connections each in the national capital region and Mumbai and adjoining towns, and another 1.43 lakh in Pune. This target compares to 11.02 lakh piped natural gas users in the national capital region and 12.77 lakh in Mumbai and adjoining cities, according to the GAIL document. In 2018-19, GAIL and its affiliates had targeted 3 lakh connections in the national capital region (NCR) and Mumbai and adjoining cities. Against this, Indraprastha Gas Ltd issued a record 2.1 lakh connections while Mahanagar Gas Ltd enrolled 1.68 lakh new users. Pune currently has 1.68 lakh users getting piped natural gas in their kitchens. Other cities where GAIL and its affiliates are targeting new users include Kanpur, Agra and Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, Indore and Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, Kakinada, Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad in Telangana.last_img read more

According to sources, DLF has settled around Rs 2,000 crore through cash. “This has been a major restructuring exercise and has now resulted in a larger alignment of the Group’s rental assets under the DCCDL platform,” DLF said. After these transfers and consolidation of commercial assets, DLF said DCCDL is positioned even more strongly to continue its growth journey. “The total settlement of receivables (net of values received for transfer of shareholding / dividend received from DCCDL and other inter-company adjustments) will result in an increase in the company’s net debt by only Rs 475 crores approx,” the filing said. DLF said it has completed the final chapter of its balance sheet transformation. Earlier, DLF had transferred Mall of India project at Noida, Uttar Pradesh to DCCDL at an enterprise value of Rs 2,950 crore. The realty firm had also transferred 3.05 acres land parcel at Gurugram, Haryana. DCCDL currently holds nearly 30 million sq ft of rent-yielding commercial assets, largely in Gurugram, with annual rental income of about Rs 3,000 crore. In December 2017, DLF entered into this joint venture with GIC when DLF promoters sold their entire 40 per cent stake in DCCDL for nearly Rs 12,000 crore. This deal included sale of 33.34 per cent stake in the DCCDL to GIC for about Rs 9,000 crore and buyback of remaining shares worth about Rs 3,000 crore by DCCDL.last_img read more

first_imgNew Delhi/Berne: As India steps up its crackdown on suspected black money stashed abroad, Switzerland has issued public notices to former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi and his wife Minal following requests made by Indian authorities about Swiss bank details of the couple. In its latest federal gazette notification on assistance sought by foreign jurisdictions under bilateral treaties for exchange of information on matters concerning suspected financial irregularities, Switzerland’s Federal Tax Administration (FTA) has named Lalit and Minal Modi (alias Minalini Modi) among such individuals. The former IPL commissioner, who is said to have left India for London in 2010, is already facing a money-laundering probe also, though he has denied any wrongdoing. The two separate notifications dated October 1 did not disclose any further details, besides giving Lalit and Minal Modi ten days’ time to designate authorised persons to respond to the assistance request received by the FTA from India. Interestingly, similar notices were issued against the two in 2016, but it could not be ascertained whether the Swiss authorities eventually shared the details with India in that case. That time also, the two were given time for “exercise of the right to be heard”. In recent months, several other Indian nationals have been named in such notifications after Indian authorities approached the Swiss FTA for information about those people concerning the pending tax-related probes against them.last_img read more

New Delhi The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday

first_imgNew Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday arrested a close aide of corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar inside a Delhi court in a money-laundering case related to negotiations allegedly favouring foreign private airlines and causing loss to state-owned Air India. The agency took Yasmin Kapoor into custody after she was produced before a Delhi court. She was lodged in Tihar jail in another case being probed by the CBI. After taking her into custody, the ED sought her custodial interrogation from Special Judge Anuradha Shukla Bhardwaj, which was allowed till October 9. Also Read – India gets first tranche of Swiss account details under automatic exchange framework Advocate Nitesh Rana, the special public prosecutor for the ED, told the court that Kapoor was required to be quizzed to unearth the larger conspiracy and for that her custody was needed. The court, which had last month cancelled the anticipatory bail granted to Kapoor in the money-laundering case, passed the order after Rana submitted that Kapoor was misusing the bail granted by the court. Kapoor was granted anticipatory bail by the court on March 22, while Talwar was in judicial custody in the case lodged by the ED. Also Read – Afghan Taliban frees 3 Indian hostages in exchange for 11 top militant leaders: Reports There were reasons to believe that the tainted money, received from the foreign airlines, was used for the acquisition of Kapoor’s residential property in New Delhi, Rana said. The ED claimed that several companies, in which Kapoor was a shareholder along with Talwar, received the proceeds of the crime. It said the agency’s probe in this regard was underway. Kapoor had sought anticipatory bail claiming that the ED threatened her to take names and also to convince Talwar to give names of government officials or political functionaries, failing which she would be arrested. Talwar was deported from the UAE in connection with the money-laundering case. The ED had earlier said it needed to interrogate Talwar to get the names of Ministry of Civil Aviation, National Aviation Company of India Ltd and Air India officials, who had favoured the foreign airlines, including Qatar Airways, Emirates and Air Arabia. The agency had claimed that entities directly or indirectly controlled by the accused received exorbitant amounts from Qatar Airways, Emirates and Air Arabia and submitted a chart of a total of USD 60.54 million allegedly received by firms directly or indirectly owned by Talwar between April 23, 2008 and February 6, 2009. Talwar’s alleged role in some aviation deals during the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime at the Centre was under the scanner as well. Talwar was booked by the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in criminal cases of corruption, while the Income-Tax department charged him with tax evasion. Kapoor is currently in custody in a case of alleged violation of foreign exchange rules by Talwar’s NGO, Advantage India. The case relates to alleged misappropriation of Rs 90 crore received by Advantage India through foreign funding.last_img read more
