The circumstances of this period in the club, we need to be strong and we cannot complain.“It’s not easy to get to Wembley on public transport, it’s not easy.“Our fans tried to raise the atmosphere but in a 90,000 stadium we’re limited to 51,000. We had 45,000.“That is why when I was asked before, ‘Do you want to move into our new stadium as soon as it is ready?'”I said ‘Of course, as soon as possible,’ because it’s going to be a massive boost for the team. It’s going to be a place where the fans can help the team achieve more. There is no doubt.” last_img read more

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie On Laremy Tunsil Bong Video: “I Would’ve Gone In And Cuffed The Guy”

Posted in mgxagtxu on October 27th, 2019

first_imgchris christie and jerry jones celebrate.Twitter/@Bogs4NYLaremy Tunsil may be lucky that this year’s draft is in Chicago, and not New York City. An overzealous former prosecutor may have hopped state lines to bring him in after a hacker posted an old video of him smoking a bong out of a gas mask to his Twitter account.New Jersey Governor and former presidential candidate Chris Christie joined WFAN’s Boomer & Carton on Friday morning to discuss the draft, and spent a lot of time expressing his bemusement about the Tunsil situation. At one point, the former New Jersey Chief Federal Law Enforcement Officer said that if he were still a prosecutor, he would have “gone in and cuffed” the Ole Miss offensive tackle. Buzzfeed’s Christopher Massie transcribed some of the more interesting parts of the appearance:“It’s unbelievable,” Christie said. “Because the bong hits aren’t enough. Give me the gas mask too. It’s incredible. I can’t take my eyes off it. It’s unbelievable.”Earlier in the interview, Christie, who opposes marijuana legalization, said, “When I was a prosecutor, I would’ve gone in and cuffed this guy,” adding, “I would’ve been all over it.”Christie also expressed sympathy towards Tunsil, saying, “Poor kid in that respect. I mean, he did it. But who’s the guy that hates him enough that they had access to the video and put it on. I mean, wow.”Here is the full interview: [Buzzfeed]last_img read more

Euro 2020 mascot: What is it & who are the previous finals mascots?

Posted in ronplzeq on October 26th, 2019

first_imgSkillzy was revealed as the UEFA Euro 2020 mascot on March 25, 2019 as part of the organisation’s ‘Your Move’ campaign.UEFA believes it has broken new ground with regards to mascots with Skillzy, marrying the traditional life-sized mascot with a more interactive figure for the modern day. Essentially, Skillzy, whose launch at the Johan Cruyff ArenA in Amsterdam was a deliberate nod to one of the game’s most skilful ever players, is a freestyle footballer who is capable of “a dazzling array of tricks”. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? The thinking behind UEFA’s move is to reflect “younger fans’ passion for other forms of football outside the traditional 11-a-side game”.This was showcased when he was unveiled prior to a qualifier between the Netherlands and Germany alongside Liv Cooke and Tobias Becs, who have been named as official UEFA Euro 2020 Freestylers.“We wanted to move away from the traditional mascot that we have seen at previous UEFA EUROs in order to create a symbol that is able to interact more closely with football fans across the continent,” said Guy-Laurent Epstein, marketing director of UEFA Events SA. “It is important that UEFA appeals to football fans of all ages, and by creating a mascot which is actually able to physically play the game we all love, this will inspire youngsters from Dublin to Baku to try and emulate the tricks that Skillzy, Liv Cooke and Tobias Becs are able to master.”Skillzy Euro 2020With Euro 2020 to be played all over the continent, the aim is to make the tournament as inclusive as possible, and Skillzy is meant to represent this.As Cooke explained: “Being able to take the beauty of freestyling, street football and panna to football fans all over Europe is a really special opportunity.“Whether it’s playing in the park or on the world stage, whether it’s football or freestyling, it’s about expressing yourself with the ball at your feet.”Indeed, Your Move invites fans to do this, with budding freestyles offered the chance to represent their city by performing unique freestyle moves that could lead to them being given their chance to showcase their skills at Euro 2020 events.Past European Championship MascotsSuper Victor Euro 2016Since Euro 1980 in Italy, a mascot for the competition has been a fixture in the competition, with the last nine tournaments enjoying such representation.Pinocchio was the first European Championship finals mascot, based on the story written by Carlo Collodi. In France four years later, Peno appeared. It was a white cockerel, the symbol of the French national team, that was more obviously designed with football in mind as it wore a blue strip, football boots and gloves.West Germany and Sweden in 1988 and 1992 both had rabbits as mascots, named Berni and Rabbit respectively. Both were dressed in footballing attire.Euro 96 in England saw a nod to the country’s famous ‘Three Lions’ with Goaliath. With echoes of World Cup Willie – a lion used as the mascot for the 1966 World Cup in the country – it was dressed in an England shirt and held a football under its arm.The joint nature of the Netherlands and Belgium European Championship of 2000 was reflected by a mascot that merged the footballing traditions of the two nations and took its name from the Benelux group of countries that also includes Luxembourg. Benelucky was a lion with a devil’s tail and human hands. Its mane was multi-coloured, representing the colours of both host nations.Portugal 2004 started a move away from animals to more recognisable, human figures. Kinas, who was the mascot of that competition, was simply a cartoon boy.For the joint bids from Austria and Switzerland in 2008 and Poland and Ukraine in 2012 came two sets of twins, Trix and Flix, and Slavek and Slavko respectively, who were dressed in the colours of the nations.France 2016 followed that trend in 2016 with Super Victor, who was a child in the French national colours, with a cape, which along with his boots and ball are claimed to bring him superpowers.Skillzy, therefore, continues the recent tradition of mascots in the form of cartoon humans.last_img read more

College Football Writer Thinks Big 12 Should Poach These 2 Power Conference Schools

Posted in dtmtmatt on October 26th, 2019

first_imgArizona State Sun Devils cheerleaders pose before the team's first-round game of the Pac-12 basketball tournament against the Colorado Buffaloes at T-Mobile Arena.LAS VEGAS, NV – MARCH 07: Arizona State Sun Devils cheerleaders pose before the team’s first-round game of the Pac-12 basketball tournament against the Colorado Buffaloes at T-Mobile Arena on March 7, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Buffaloes won 97-85. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)Issues in the Pac-12 have been a major talking point in college football this week. The conference has struggled to make inroads on a national scale, being left out of its second College Football Playoff this past season. CBS Sports‘ Dennis Dodd wrote a column revealing that many coaches and administrators at member schools aren’t thrilled.Another major issue for the league is the fledgling Pac-12 Networks. While the Big Ten and SEC have launched pretty successful linear networks, with the help of FOX and ESPN respectively, the Pac-12 struck out on their own and…may have struck out. Now, the league is trending behind its Power Five rivals in revenue.Arizona State president Michael Crow is cited as one of commissioner Larry Scott’s supporters. However, ASU athletic director Ray Anderson was quoted in Dodd’s piece.“The gap between us and the other [leagues] continues to grow,” he said. “We’ll be competitively disadvantaged even moreso. … That’s real money in terms of being able to compete, support facilities, support coaches and support programs.”It wasn’t long ago that the Big 12 seemed like the most vulnerable Power Five league. Now, one college football writer thinks they may be in a position for a power move, to hurt the Pac-12.The Athletic’s David Ubben thinks the Big 12 should considering Pac-12 schools Arizona and Arizona State. In responding to Dodd’s column, which got a lot of traction earlier in the week, Ubben floated the idea. Via Twitter:Big 12 would be wise to begin cuddling up to Arizona, Arizona State with expansion in mind before leagues begin negotiating their new TV deals. The fissures in the Pac-12 have never been wider. https://t.co/O8vMdnx5Io— David Ubben (@davidubben) May 15, 2018This would be an interesting return blow. In an earlier round of conference expansion, the Pac-12 nabbed Colorado out of the Big 12.The two schools would be the Westernmost outposts for the Big 12. However, they are closer to Texas Tech, at least, than West Virginia is to much of the league. Arizona to West Virginia in-conference trips would truly be something, though. This is all very hypothetical, and there is no real indication that the Arizona schools, or any Pac-12 member, are looking to leave. However, if the Big 12 wants to shift the balance a bit, it would be quite the power move.last_img read more

Urban Meyer’s Wife Sent This Text Message To A Reporter On Saturday

(Photo by Scott Halleran/Getty Images)The Urban Meyer-Ohio State saga went to another level of drama on Saturday, as it was reported that Texas head coach Tom Herman was the one who leaked news of the allegations against now-fired assistant coach Zach Smith to college football insider Brett McMurphy. These allegations have since been denied by both the Texas head coach and his wife, Michelle Herman. McMurphy has also said that it isn’t true.“I have never revealed my sources in my nearly four decade journalistic career & I am not going to start now. However, I will say unequivocally that Tom Herman was not my source,” McMurphy tweeted.Jeff Snook, the reporter who broke the news of Herman’s alleged role, was able to get a comment from Urban Meyer’s wife, Shelley Meyer.Shelley Meyer, who allegedly texted with the ex-wife of Zach Smith regarding the allegations, was unable to comment on the record, but she did thank Snook for pursuing both sides of the story.“I really do appreciate you doing your job with integrity and checking on all the points, unlike some others,” Shelley Meyer said, via a text message. “I just can’t comment and I am very sorry. Thank u.”This is an ongoing saga and it’s unclear if anything reported on Saturday – even if it’s true – will actually have a bearing on what happens to Urban Meyer and Ohio State’s football program. The investigation into Urban Meyer and the program, regarding the handling of domestic violence accusations against Zach Smith, is expected to be completed soon.last_img read more

Dhoni took time to settle into his innings on most occassions. In the semi-final defeat to New Zealand MS Dhoni combined with Ravindra Jadeja to steer India out of trouble as the duo took the team from 92 for 6 to 208 for 7 in chase of 240. Dhoni hit a 72-ball 50 but was run out after he started to attack the New Zealand pacers at the death.”I can clearly say this that till today MS [Dhoni] is the best gloveman and finisher in India in the shorter formats. The others are still work in progress. MS was a big strength to this team in the World Cup both as a batsman and keeper, apart from sharing his vast experience with the team and captain while taking on-field decisions,” MSK Prasad told PTI.MS Dhoni was not considered for selection for India’s upcoming tour of West Indies, starting August 3 in the United States. Dhoni had approached the BCCI for a 2-month sabbatical during which he would serve the Paramilitary regiment of the Indian Army.advertisementReiterating that more chances will be given to Rishabh Pant across all formats of the game in the near future, MSK Prasad remained tight-lipped on wether MS Dhoni will be considered for selection once he makes himself available for the home series against South Africa and Bangladesh from September.Prasad had confirmed that MS Dhoni will not be available for selection for West Indies tour while maintaining that a legendary player like him should be allowed to go out on his own terms.”I have very clearly told post the selection of the Indian team against West Indies, that we have a plan post World Cup to give as many opportunities as possible to Rishabh and groom him so that he can grow in confidence and perform as per the requirements of the team,” MSK Prasad said.Pant has been picked as the first-choice wicketkeeper in all 3 formats for India’s tour of West Indies. Wriddhiman Saha, who is set to make his comeback after injury setbacks, has been selected as the back-up wicketkeeper in Tests. Also Read | Virat Kohli’s comments on Ravi Shastri will not influence CAC: Anshuman GaekwadAlso Read | Fighter Prithvi will come out of doping setback stronger: Childhood coachAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Sock Hop NY: The New Favorite in Your Closet

Posted in kebzagld on October 24th, 2019

first_img What to Wear to an Interview: 6 Tips for Men to Pick Out the Perfect Outfit When Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. hit David Letterman’s stage in October 2013 to promote his solo album, he donned a favorite black short-sleeved shirt—a custom designed number by Sock Hop NY.“It speaks of confidence,” says Vince Nasserbakht who is one of the owners of this family run business. “You want to feel confident with what you’re wearing. That’s where style comes from—confidence in your own clothing.“The fact that Hammond chose to play in one of our shirts on Letterman speaks of confidence,” he says. “He wore a black short-sleeved shirt with a really short collar. He wore it closed, so the collar needed to be a perfect collar. It’s very hip and very clean looking. Our execution is as good as it gets. These are the shirts you reach for in your closet, the selection you hold as your favorites.”The business has been in Nasserbakht’s family for four generations. Currently, he works with his dad and two of his three brothers. He says it’s his family’s attention to the finest details and quality craftsmanship that sets them apart from other shirt makers. When customers arrive at their shop, they take more than a dozen measurements as opposed to the three measurements usually noted for a mass produced shirt. They also take into account how a person’s neck fits into his body and body shape.Once they have the measurements to create a custom shirt, customers decide on whether they want long or short sleeves, formal or casual styling, as well as have their choice of hundreds of fabrics, different collars and cuffs. It takes only 10 days to go from measurements to finished custom shirt. Nasserbakht says they can turn it around fast because everything is handled in house.“Each shirt is 100% custom made. They are all cut from scratch and hand sewn,” he says. His brothers currently handle production under direction of their father while Vince serves on the front end: taking measurements, sourcing fabrics and serving as Creative Director. While Sock Hop NY produces shirts for just about any type of occasion, Nasserbakht says they hit their sweet spot by producing hip, in between shirts for the young creative man. “These are guys who want to look good, but not super formal. “They’ll wear it all day at work and then go out in it at night. It’s really a seamless transition.”Short sleeve shirts start at $175 and long sleeve at $200. The price depends on the fabric and quantity of shirts ordered. There is a discount for bulk purchases. Mr. President Goes To War – 5 Badass Commanders In Chief

Posted in usaewrcm on October 24th, 2019

first_imgWhile it’s still far too early to predict who will win the 2016 presidential election, it is a safe bet that neither he or she will be a war hero. Being a veteran used to be an almost essential part of a prospective president’s CV — even The Great Emancipator served for a few months during the Black Hawk War.But of the last five U.S. presidents, only one served in combat. And of those in the running this time, none even served in the reserves or National Guard. And that’s fine – military service is not a categorical prerequisite for the presidency. But it sure helped shape the character of the fine men we’re discussing today. Before these presidents took the Oath of Office, they took the Oath of Awesome. (Which, I readily admit, was a pretty awful joke.)Ulysses S. GrantAny man who could ably serve as both a warrior and a president while in fact blackout drunk is deserving of much admiration indeed. We all know that Grant was one of the most successful generals of the Civil War, eventually rising to the command of the entire Union Army (after President Lincoln sacked a succession of tepid, ineffective generals), but did you know that during the Mexican American War of the 1840s, Grant is said to directed his men to carry a disassembled cannon up into a church steeple, reassembled the weapon, and then rained fire down on the enemy an action which helped seal American victory at Chapultepec? All that while drinking whiskey out of a boot! Probably…George H. W. BushPresident Bush, the senior, of course, chose to defer his acceptance to Yale because his country needed men like him, dammit. He become a navy pilot at the age of 19, setting what was then a record as the youngest to serve in that role. During a fateful mission in September of 1944, the TBM Avenger Bush was piloting was ravaged by Japanese antiaircraft fire. Bush, being a certified badass, decided to complete his bombing run despite the smoke and flames slowly engulfing his plane. Then he flew out over the sea and instructed his crew members to bail out, an action he completed after they were out of the plane. The other two servicemen were never found, but Bush was rescued from the water by a U.S. submarine. Then he went skydiving in his 80s. A few times.Andrew JacksonJackson served in both of America’s first major conflicts, the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, distinguishing himself in particular with his valiant leadership during the Battle of New Orleans, an action that took place weeks after the latter war had been resolved via treaty. Information was slow to travel back then, but it’s a commonly accepted belief that Jackson would have kept right on fighting even if he had known. Old Hickory, you see, loved fighting. Thus he plunged back into combat in the First Seminole War. His orders were to fight the local natives who were in uprising and stop runaway slaves from sheltering in Spanish-held Florida. Jackson being Jackson, he instead led his men in an all-out invasion of the Spanish territory, eventually forcing the Spaniards to surrender and cede Florida to the United States.John F. KennedyFor a guy who wasn’t allowed to serve in the army due to a bad back, JFK sure figured out how to be a badass warrior during WWII. He signed up with the Navy instead and eventually took control of a Patrol Torpedo boat, the PT-109. On his 31st mission commanding the small but able craft, just as the PT-109 commenced an attack, Kennedy’s boat was rammed and sunk by a Japanese destroyer. Kennedy gathered the survivors in the water, and when he and his men agreed not to surrender, he towed a wounded man to an island by clenching the strap of the guy’s lifejacket in his teeth. After the crew’s rescue and despite re-injury to his back, Kennedy took command of another PT boat. He led multiple missions, including one in which his boat and one other rescued nearly 90 stranded marines. Later in the same year, 1943, a doctor finally advised Kennedy that he was no longer fit for service due to his back issues. He was discharged with honor.George WashingtonGeorge Washington was the O.G. in so many ways. The first president was also the first certifiable American badass. He served in the 7 Year’s War (AKA the French and Indian War), he led American troops to victory during the American Revolution, and then he nobly surrendered his military rank before taking on the mantle of executive power. And then, in the first half of the 1790s, Washington became the only sitting president to lead troops in conflict when he mounted up and led a contingent of militiamen against people rebelling against a new tax. No shots were fired during the so-called Whiskey Rebellion, because when George Washington takes the field, the battle is pretty much a foregone conclusion. Take a Trip Through History in the Superformance Ford GT40 Recreation

Posted in niwgfmlp on October 24th, 2019

first_img Editors’ Recommendations North Canon Drive Residence Is Worth Every Penny of Its $45 Million Price Tag Considering the Ford GT/40 is one of my all-time favorite vehicles, getting the chance to drive a recreation is a dream come true. The Mk II body and components are engineered to the original car’s exact specifications, meaning two-thirds of the parts could be swapped with the 1966 car, including the chassis. This particular car has been provided by Hillbank Motorsports, a distributor of Superformance vehicles, and is owned and driven by the CEO’s son. Though its black and gold exterior is showroom quality, this example has spent far more time on racetracks across the U.S. than suburban streets.Superformance is commissioned to build rolling chassis (without engines), but the finished cars are commonly equipped with small and big block V8’s. The car I would be driving uses a 427 cubic-inch Roush V8 like the race car, but has been retuned to produce 550 horsepower and 525 pound-feet of torque. Mind you, the classic four-speed manual transmission remains, which translates to some very tall gearing. To handle all that power, Superformance uses Bilstein coilovers with H&R Springs, a fully independent front and rear suspension, and a Wilwood big brake kit. Best of all, the vehicle weighs just 2,200 pounds. Take a Trip Through History in the Superformance Ford GT40 Recreation Close 6 Fastest Cars in the World Right Now The story of the Ford GT40 warrants far more than a few words, but I’ll use its history simply as context here. The GT40 Mk I was built in an effort to trump Ferrari, who had been occupying podium positions at the 24 Hours of Le Mans for several years by the early 1960s. Sadly, each of the Lola Mk6-based vehicles constructed in 1964 failed to finish that year’s 24-hour race. It was then that Ford’s Le Mans team was handed over to Carroll Shelby. Under the guidance of the legendary driver and autophile, the GT40 Mk II was built with a 7.0-liter 427 cubic-inch V8, improved dynamics, and a whole lot of attitude. The cars went on to secure Ford’s first 1-2-3 finish at the 1966 Le Mans race and cement their places in motorsport history. Ford continued its domination at Le Mans in 1967, ’68, and ’69 with updated versions of the GT40.Though Ford created seven Ford GT40 Mk III production cars, it was only in 2005 that the automaker introduced a more widely available model: the Ford GT. For this reason, road-going recreations of the Ford GT40 hold special places in the hearts of automotive enthusiasts. And among the specialty shops that take on the task of GT40 continuations, no one does it better than Superformance. Hendrick’s Gin and The BoomCase Collaborate on the Most Peculiar Speaker System Ever

How to Make a Perfect Vodka Martini The speaker in the BoomCase features a 100-watt amplifier that powers two 6.5-inch woofers, one 5-inch mid-range speaker, and four dome tweeters. There is a rechargeable lithium battery which provides over 18-plus hours of playtime per charge through an auxiliary cable or wirelessly via Bluetooth. The structure that houses everything is handmade from birch wood and features leather trim, Harris tweed, and steel hardware. (Want to know more about Harris tweed? We thought you’d never ask.)On the Hendrick’s side of things, you’ll find one tea pot, two tea cups, two saucers, and a placeholder for a 750-ml bottle (which is sadly not included). The two companies saw themselves in each other. Hendrick’s produces small batches of gin under the guise of a single stillman while The BoomCase’s founder, Dominic Odbert, has been creating speaker systems in vintage suitcases in his boutique studio since 2009. Odbert doesn’t just use suitcases though — he’s also made this awesome barrel speaker system, nicknamed the BoomBarrel XL.If this is up your alley, you’re going to want to act fast, because only 15 of these were made. They’re selling for $775 each in The Boomcase’s store. Like, way up. You might say they know how to turn it up to eleven. In the past, they’ve created cucumber-slicing contraptions, Negroni-making machines, and they even had freakin’ dirigible for a little while (how many companies — outside of, say, Michelin — can say that?). This time, Hendrick’s is bringing their special brand of exquisite to the user in the form of a collaboration with vintage suitcase boombox company The BoomCase. The collaboration is not only a portable speaker system in line with The BoomCase’s other products, but it is also a gin tea set — because the best time to have gin is all the time (coincidentally, all the time is also the best time to have tea, so win-win on that one).
